Play Therapy at Bright Emotions CIC

We provide many services at Bright Emotions, including Play Therapy.

Our resident Play Therapist Tamara, has over fifteen years of experience and is making a positive impact working with children and families.

So, what is a Play Therapist and what services do they provide?

Play therapy is a safe space for children to express themselves without the pressure of having to talk about their thoughts, feelings or experiences. Tamara is able to offer these therapeutic services to children and their families who may be struggling with thoughts and feelings, making day-to-day life more challenging. Behaviours may present themselves as dysregulation, anxiety, tearful, struggling with friendships or relationships and becoming angry or frustrated. Working with children aged 4-12, Tamara provides a course of sessions to support your child and your family.

What does a typical session look like?

We will provide a wide range of toys in a playroom which provides choice for the child and allows the child to lead their own play without direction from the play therapist. Over time, the child will feel able to explore their difficulties, helping them to understand themselves and their world better, and learn ways to cope by testing out their own strategies in the playroom before using them in the real world.

Where will the sessions be held?

The sessions can take place at the Bright Emotions Hub in Bedford, or at your child’s school (depending on location).

How long are the sessions and how long is the course?

Each child will have a minimum of 12 sessions each lasting 40 - 45 minutes. These sessions can be extended if needed.
